Scoliosis is a medical condition that affects the spine. It causes the spine to curve to the side, resulting in an “S” or “C” shape. The severity of scoliosis can vary from mild to severe, and it can affect people of all ages. Some common symptoms of scoliosis include uneven shoulders, a prominent shoulder blade, uneven hips, and an asymmetrical waistline. Treatment options for scoliosis depend on the severity of the condition and may include physical therapy, bracing, or surgery.
A thoracolumbosacral orthosis (TLSO) designed specifically for the treatment of scoliosis is a unique medical device that is well-established in research as an effective conservative treatment method in the management of scoliosis. The goal of scoliosis bracing is to slow or prevent further curve progression during childhood and adolescent growth. Ortho Design utilizes 3D spine modelling to create a custom scoliosis TLSO designed to optimally correct the specific curve type of each patient with a simple measurement process. These TLSOs are as unique as the curve of each patient and are worn 20-23 hours per day until skeletal maturity is reached. Ortho Design’s scoliosis TLSOs are a 3D asymmetrical style, similar to a Rigo-Cheneau style, which is considered the gold standard by international organizations such as SOSORT. The orthotist works closely with orthopedic surgeons, referring physicians, and physiotherapists to optimize the overall bracing treatment and to achieve the best results possible. Progress is monitored through regular x-ray imaging to ensure ongoing optimal curve correction throughout the growth years.
